Is there really such a thing as “no minimum”?
Every custom box needs some setup: a dieline, a proof, a press setup and a cutting tool. Suppliers who advertise “no minimum” usually either build that setup into a high unit price or limit you to a handful of stock sizes. We’d rather be straightforward: our minimum on most styles is 50 units, and your quote shows exactly what 50, 100 and 250 cost so you can choose.
When a short run makes sense
- Product launches — test a design with real customers before ordering volume.
- Seasonal and limited editions — holiday sleeves, collaboration boxes, event kits.
- PR and influencer kits — 50–200 premium boxes that need to look perfect.
- Retail samples — a small batch to show buyers before a purchase order.
- Multiple SKUs — several designs at lower quantities instead of one large run.

Make a short run look like a big-brand box.
Small quantities don’t have to look small-batch. The trick is spending on the details people notice:
- Fit. A box sized to the product, with a simple card insert, feels designed. A product rattling in an oversized box feels improvised.
- One standout finish. A foil logo or soft-touch coating on the lid adds more perceived value than full-coverage printing.
- The inside of the lid. A short printed message (“Made for you by…”) creates the unboxing moment for very little cost.
- Consistent color. Use your brand color as a solid background rather than many small elements — digital presses render solids beautifully.
Digital vs offset for short runs.
| Digital printing | Offset printing | |
|---|---|---|
| Setup | No plates; fast | Plates per color; longer make-ready |
| Best quantity | About 50 to 1,000 | Usually 1,000+ |
| Unit cost at 100 | Lower | Much higher (setup spread over few units) |
| Unit cost at 5,000 | Higher | Lower |
| Color | Very good CMYK | Excellent; Pantone spot colors |
| Versioning | Easy — change artwork per box | Each design needs its own plates |
The crossover point depends on box size and coverage; your quote compares both where it makes sense.
Good uses for short runs.

- PR and influencer kits where each box can be personalized.
- Crowdfunding rewards, where the quantity is known only after the campaign.
- Retail pilot programs in a handful of stores.
Frequently asked questions
What is the lowest quantity I can order?
Fifty units on most mailer, carton and kraft styles; 100 for rigid and magnetic boxes and for foil or spot UV finishes.
Is the quality lower on short runs?
No. Digital presses print photographic detail, and every short run gets the same structural check, artwork review and 3D proof as a volume order.
Can I reorder the same short run later?
Yes. We keep your dieline and approved artwork on file, so reorders are quick and match the original.
How fast can a short run be delivered?
Production is usually 8–10 business days after proof approval, plus shipping. Rush production is available on many styles — ask when you request a quote.
What do I need to send for a quote?
The inside dimensions of the box (or the product size), the quantity, and the style you have in mind. Artwork is optional at the quote stage — a logo and brand colors are enough for us to price printing accurately.
Is quality lower on short runs?
No. Digital printing gives sharp, full-color results; the main differences are Pantone matching and some specialty finishes, which we will explain on your quote.
