Options

Three kinds of sample.

1. Sample kit. A selection of our boxes in different materials and finishes, so you can feel SBS against kraft, matte against soft-touch, and see foil and spot UV up close. Best when you’re still deciding. Order a sample kit.

2. Plain structural sample. Your exact box size and structure, cut from unprinted board. It tests fit, opening, insert hold and how the box ships. Best for any new or custom structure.

3. Printed prototype. Your box with your artwork and finishes, made individually before the production run. Best for color-critical brands, retail buyer meetings and photo shoots.

Checklist

What to test on a sample.

  • Fit: product slides in without forcing and doesn’t rattle. Check with the heaviest and largest variant.
  • Opening: tuck flaps hold closed, tear strips tear cleanly, magnets close with a satisfying snap.
  • Protection: pack it, ship it to yourself or drop it from waist height on each face and corner.
  • Color: compare under daylight and under the lighting where it will be sold.
  • Assembly speed: time how long it takes your team to fold and pack one — multiplied by thousands, it matters.
Judgement

When a sample is worth the time.

Skip the sample for straightforward reorders and standard structures you already know. Get one for new structures, products over a few pounds, fragile items, premium rigid boxes and anything where color matching is critical. A sample adds days; a reprint adds weeks.

Timing

Timeline for a sample.

Sample Typical time to make
Sample kit Ships from stock
Plain structural sample A few business days
Printed prototype Several business days, depending on finishes

Add shipping time. We confirm the timeline when you request a sample.

Choose

Sample vs proof: which do you need?

A 3D proof confirms layout and copy. A physical sample confirms fit, feel, color and protection. Reorders and standard styles usually need only a proof; new structures, fragile products and color-critical brands benefit from both.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do you charge for samples?

Sample kit and sample pricing are shown on our sample kit page and quotes. Ask your specialist about credits toward your first order.

How long does a printed prototype take?

Typically several business days plus shipping, depending on the structure and finishes.

Is a printed prototype identical to production?

Prototypes are made individually and may use digital printing, so very slight color differences from offset production are possible.

Can I get a sample of my custom size?

Yes. Plain structural samples are made to your exact dimensions.

What is in the sample kit?

A selection of box styles, materials and finishes so you can compare them in hand.

Can the sample cost be credited?

Ask your specialist about crediting sample costs to your production order.

Hold it before you order it.

Choose a sample kit, or send your box size for a structural sample.
