Choose the box by how the candle reaches the customer.
Retail shelf or market stall: a printed tuck end carton or a two-piece box is enough. The candle is handled gently, and the box is mostly about presentation and scent information.
Gift and premium lines: a rigid box with a card or foam collar holds the jar centrally and feels substantial. Foil or deboss on the lid works well; many brands add a window or a cut-out to show the vessel.
Shipped direct to customers: glass is the risk. A corrugated mailer box with a die-cut insert that grips the jar — not just loose padding — prevents the most common breakage: the jar shifting and cracking against a corner. For multi-candle sets, add dividers so jars can’t touch.
Measuring candle vessels
Measure the widest diameter (often the rim or lid) and the full height with the lid on. Tumbler and apothecary jars taper, so the insert should grip the widest part. Send us a vessel if you can: it’s the fastest way to a perfect fit.

Room for safety and scent information.
Most US candle makers follow ASTM F2058, the standard for candle fire-safety labeling, which sets out the cautionary statements (burn within sight, keep away from things that can burn, keep away from children and pets) and a pictogram. It’s usually applied as a label on the vessel, but many brands repeat key warnings on the box.
Plan space for: scent name and notes, net wax weight (in ounces and grams), burn time, wick type, wax type, your business name and address, and the safety statements. A neat back-panel layout keeps the front clean for branding.
Common candle box sizes.

| 8 oz tumbler | ~3 in dia × 3.5 in | 3.25 × 3.25 × 4 in |
| 12–14 oz jar | ~3.5 in dia × 4 in | 3.75 × 3.75 × 4.5 in |
| 3-wick bowl | ~4.5 in dia × 3.5 in | 5 × 5 × 4 in |

Measure your actual vessel including the lid; jar dimensions vary between suppliers.
Frequently asked questions
What size box do I need for an 8 oz candle?
It depends on the vessel shape — an 8 oz tumbler is often around 3 inches wide and 3.5 inches tall. Measure the widest point and height with the lid on, or send a vessel, and we will size the box and insert.
How do I stop candle jars breaking in shipping?
Use a corrugated mailer with a die-cut insert that grips the jar so it cannot move, and dividers between jars in multi-packs. Loose fill alone often lets jars shift into a corner.
Can candle boxes have a window?
Yes, a window or cut-out lets customers see the vessel and wax color. Windows suit cartons and two-piece boxes.
Do I need warning labels on candle boxes?
Fire-safety cautions following ASTM F2058 are commonly placed on the candle itself, and many brands repeat them on the box. Check with your own compliance adviser for your market.
Do you make boxes for wax melts?
Yes — slim sleeves, clamshell-style cartons and small tuck end boxes are all available for wax melts.
Do candle boxes need inserts?
Glass jars shipped direct benefit from a corrugated insert or a snug mailer. Retail boxes for tins often need none.
