What makes a counter display sell.
Store staff give a counter display a few square inches and about five seconds of attention when they set it up. Design for both the shopper and the staff:
n- n
- The header does the selling. One line, big type: what it is and why to pick it up now. Shoppers read headers from a meter away. n
- Front lip height. Low enough to see the product, high enough to stop units sliding out u2014 usually a third to half the product height. n
- Fill from the back. A slight forward tilt or step keeps products visible as the display empties. n
- Easy setup. If it takes more than a minute to assemble, it may never come out of the stockroom. n
- Retailer rules. Larger chains have size and material requirements for displays u2014 share any spec sheets you receive. n
Display box formats.
- n
- Counter display (PDQ): a tray with a tall printed header, holding small items at the till. n
- Tear-away display: ships as a closed carton, then the top perforates away to become a tray. n
- Shelf-ready tray: a low tray that sits on a shelf and is restocked as a unit. n
- Floor display: larger corrugated units for stores u2014 quoted as custom projects. n
Retailers may have size limits for counter displays; check the vendor guide before designing.
